I was really looking forward to reading this book and thought it was an ok story that I have read before.I liked the idea of the letters, but I didn't really care for the characters and what happened to them just seemed trivial and out of context.
It was a nice read but nothing memorable.

IT WAS SO GOOD

This book was an amazing coming of age story that changed my prospective. This book personally inspired me to stay strong when things are chaotic. I feel as thought the book being a epistolary novel was a great way to allow us to be so close to Charlie and soon enough immediately understand the way he feels about a situation before he even says it. All of the caracteres in this book were enjoyable (I was not mad to be hearing about anyone) I think this was a perfect book to read in my freshman year of high school because of how I could really relate to Charlie on many topics. I never expected what was happening with Aunt Helen and think Charlie highlighting the way the cycle of abuse happens was a final nail in the coffin of 5⭐️ for me because of how he comments on it and spreads to message to keep going in tough times. Charlie’s mental issues are often looked over by other readers/critics of this book but I think if people take time to understand his mental they will understand his actions.

Dear friend,
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read. The format is engaging, the story is so real and raw, and it always makes me cry.

Charlie is such a unique character in so many ways. He is reflective, and kind, and selfless, and smart, and sensitive… one of my favorite quotes of his (NOT A SPOILER) is “I think if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won’t tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn’t change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn’t really change the fact that you have what you have. Good and bad.” (211).

If you’ve never read this book, do it. Now. You’ll feel infinite.

Love Always,
Kayli
