I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have to say that I truly enjoyed this book. Ellery Adams is a very skilled story teller and always develops her characters so the the reader can connect on many levels with them. Ella Mae LaFaye is the main character and even though she has a magical touch, Ellery has written her in a way that makes it easy to see her as just a regular person that you would love to have as a friend or neighbor.
In this book Ella is facing perhaps her biggest challenge to date. She is still trying to deal with her feelings over Hugh leaving her to go search for a way to regain his powers. When she inadvertently adds too much liqueur to her St. Patrick's Day pies causing her customers to become intoxicated, she decides it is time to do something with her broken heart and all the emotions that seem to keep clouding her brain. So she locks the emotions up inside a pie and puts it in the freezer. With that done Ella Mae is starting to regain her rhythm and baking like she never had a broken heart, but all too soon tragedy strikes and she is on the hunt for a murderer. Plus freak storms with hidden symbols in them lead her and her aunts to believe a rogue witch or witches are behind these storms. Ella must find a way to stop these storms and figure out why an innocent human has been killed.
A new man is also in town and he is as hot as Hugh. Just wait until you meet him in the book.
The story is wonderful, the plot keeps you guessing and the ending will touch your heart and leave you wanting the next book now!

I love Arthurian Legend, but enjoyed this series much more when the magical focus was on the pies. It just feels like it became a completely different series between book two and three and this one continued down the alternate path. I'll finish book 5, just for continuity, but these are no longer books I'm speeding through eagerly.

Book #39 Read in 2015
Lemon Pies and Little White Lies by Ellery Adams

This is the fourth book in a cozy mystery series. Though I haven't read the others yet, I had no problem understanding the characters and backstory to this series. Ella Mae has magical powers, one of which is she can put her emotions into the pies that she is making. She has become the magical queen of her small town and that is being threatened by Minue, an evil lady of the lake type. Will Ella Mae be able to save her friends and family from this evil force? The characters were interesting in this book and of course I was partial to Ella Mae's Jack Russell, Chewy. He reminded me of my Jack Russell, Emma. The small town setting added to the coziness of this book. I will read the first three books in this series and any additional ones. I received a signed copy of this book from the author; thank you Ellery!

This is the fourth book in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Series and I can not find the words to praise it high enough. Ella Mae LeFaye owns the Charmed Pie Shop in Havenwood, Georgia, Her pies are not just charmed they are magical. Ella Mae is able to change peoples moods and feelings with her pies. She is also part of a magical community and that is so much fun. In this book Ella Mae is struggling with fighting the powers of evil that threaten her and her community. I have long loved the story of Nimue and Merlin from Arthurian legend and Ellery Adams takes it into the 21st century. Her modern version is fantastic. Ellery Adams gives great attention to detail without too much information. For those of you who are not into magical myths from the past there is lots more to love in this story. As in the first three book we have the colorful and off beat aunts of Ella Mae's. Their relationship defines family devotion. And for you foodies there are lots of food descriptions and receipts . It is also a love story - well let's say Ella Mae is in love with an absent lover. And best of all for you animal lovers- there are more cats and dogs in this book than I can count. But along with Ella Mae the star of the series is Chewey- Ella Mae's Jack Russell. Lots of excitement and mystery. And the ending...... well you will just have to read it yourself.

There felt like a lot of filler in here, unfortunately. I loved the main story and I really enjoyed the ending but it took FOREVER to get to the good stuff, because there was a whole primer on the history of pie in there (we didn't need it) and more stuff about how great Ella Mae is (we know!).

Read for Fun (Paperback)
Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.00

First Thought when Finished: Lemon Pies and Little White Lies by Ellery Adams was a really good read (just had a little problem with the end).

Overall Thoughts: The Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries are probably one of my favorite cozy mystery series--PERIOD! I really love Ella, her family, and friends. I am not a fan of Hugh which is probably part of the reason this one isn't my favorite in the series. The mystery is strong. The town is delightful as ever. Her love life and the end of the story was the only thing that kept me from rating it higher. However, this series is still way worth the read. It really does rock!

Ellery Adams is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. This is the fourth book in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series and Ms. Adams does not disappoint. What she delivers is a well written story full of magic, legends, wonderful characters, romance and spot on mystery. What I loved most about this book was the way that Ms. Adams wove Arthurian legend throughout the history of the source of the Le Faye magic. The characters in this book are well developed and complex. They are women that you would want to know and a pie shop that you would want to visit. The family ties between Ella Mae, her mother and her aunts jumps off the page. There is a strong bond that is evident to the reader. The mystery was intriguing as well. I did not guess the identity of the culprit until it was revealed nor the reason why.

I am looking forward to picking up the next book in the series and catching up with Ella Mae and the rest of Havenwood.

This one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, it was so good. Who would've thought in Pies and Prejudice that this is where Ella Mae would end up?
