While not up to quite the same standards of THE SHADOW THIEVES, the sequel is still an entertaining adventure. Following the events of the first book, Charlotte and Zee find themselves mixed up in even more mythological trouble. This time, they've managed to tick off Poseidon (the second most powerful God in the pantheon!) and find themselves allied with a mysterious classmate.

The narrative tone is very similar to THE SHADOW THIEVES, and it's nice to see the characters again. Very recommended for YA readers who enjoy Percy Jackson, etc.

One thing that I appreciate about these books even when I love them in other books is that Charlotte and Zee really are just regular kids. They're not demigods or anything extra. They're just kind of lucky that the immortals so severely underestimate them and I think it's kind of awesome.

Guess I read the second book before reading the first. Not. At all impressed though. You can't make all the gods evil, come on. That's where Percy Jackson succeeded and other books didn't. And contrary to the title, this was hardly about the siren and their full potential. And Charlotte was so infuriating. Jason was annoying, Zee was flat, Charlotte's parents are so stupid. This feels like a spoof. I'm good with one, thanks.

Reminiscent of The Lighting Thief, but it has its own personality as well.

i enjoyed this book but the ending is what really made it for me :D

see i grew up on animorphs and philip pullman's dark materials, my childhood primed me to cheer when children fight powerful organized groups against impossible odds because no one else is going to do it

take down those gods charlotte and zee! three cheers for blasphemy!

It was a good follow up to The Shadow Thieves and ended with a proper cliff hanger that has me wanting to read the 3rd (and last) book in the series.

The middle book. The weak link. It has it's moments for sure but my least favorite of the series. Still good and very funny.
