“How can grief be so universal, yet so widely misunderstood?”
Amy Lin’s memoir perfectly captures the essence and the many facets of grief. The writing is beautiful and I appreciate the raw honesty of this book.
After the sudden passing of her partner, Amy shares how her life was thrown off kilter, their further plans not coming to fruition, and overall learning to adapt to a new lifestyle.
~ A few of my favorite quotes woven within—
“Grief finds its way into everything. Makes everything a part of itself.”
“Grief is chronic pain.”
“When he dies, I fall out of time.”
**this one especially hit me hard because it evokes the heartbreak and aftermath of a loved one’s death. Time is meaningless because grief is always there in the shadows.
I listened to the audiobook read by the author herself in one sitting! It was a great/heartbreaking experience to go through alongside Amy Lin while she tells her story as if speaking to a dear friend.
This is a heartbreaking read to say the least. Please be kind to yourself and gentle with your heart before picking this one up.

What an amazing book. The emotion in the writing style reminds me of Rupi Kaur's poetry. I connected so much to the author through her grief. I cried almost the whole book through but had such a connection to the earth shattering grief the author felt and was explaining I couldn't not read. I feel as though she put my life to words. Best book I've read this year. Top 5 of all time contender. Amazing read.

A heartbreakingly sad account of a woman losing her husband and navigating her own health issues and grief afterwards. The poetic vignettes that toss between the depths of grief and small, sweet moments with the one she loved were beautiful and raw.
Grief is all encompassing, overwhelming, and it affects you in ways you never would have imagined- things being too sad for people around you, losing friends, and feeling like life isn’t worth it without your person by your side.
This story is sad but there is light sprinkled throughout as she gives you a glimpse of their love.

If you want a raw and real look at grief, this is the book to read. If you need something to help you be more appreciative of your partner, this is the book to read. Amy Lin gives us a no bullcrap account of her grief process while indirectly showing us that we need to appreciate those small moments and never rely on “later” bc all you might have is now.
