Giving up your children so they could be kept safe during WWII had to have been a hard decision for parents to make then. Going back hoping to find them and not finding them, but choosing to still go on with life had to been devastating.
I loved this story and the grief that if deals with.

I liked the first 2/3 of the book quite a bit, but the ending perplexed me.

Loved this book, usually historical fictions are a hit or miss due to the pace but this was *chefs kiss*

The story is set at the beginning of WII and the aftermath amongst 3 families. How individuals go through the waves of grief and their own respective coping mechanisms. This made me think about so many older people develop dementia due to the traumatic experiences they endured.

Lastly, what great lengths a mother will do for her family.
This made me want to go hug my mom and tell I appreciate her.

World War II novel ties art, motherhood and the insecurities of women perpetuated by patriarchy into a moving story of survival.
