Awful.

This was a hard listening! This book was free on Audible so I thought to give it a go as I always really liked Philippa Gregory’s books but I have never hated a main character as much as I have hated Beatrice Lacey. On a writing level, this is a super book but no one can like a self centred girl who will go to extreme lengths to get what she wants and desires. As an intersectional feminist, I appreciate that side of the story and it must have been horrendous to be seeing as nothing more than a wife and mother with absolute no provisions if something bad were to happen to the “master” of the house. However, Beatrice is a twisted, narcissistic woman and I was glad of the end she got.

Could not finish, made me want to throw up.

Prone to reputation, and with a bitterly misogynistic vein that's hard to ignore, Wideacre is an enjoyable drama with enough juicy scandals to satisfy

Every time I read this book I experience/ notice something new. It fascinates me that the main character of the novel, Beatrice, went to such great lengths to stay on 'her' land.

Philippa Gregory is such an excellent author so she shouldn’t need to write like this to sell her books.

I tried it but there was nothing salvageable to keep me reading. Absolutely no plot and cringe writing.
