When an orphan girl is determined to become warrior legend, but first she has to convince the royal court that she’s worthy… and her escort is a curmudgeonly warrior who doesn’t have time for her sh!t. This audiobook had me up until the early hours of the morning wanting to know what comes next.

This book has all of the ingredients for a solid fantasy romance- interesting magic, overthrowing of patriarchal rules, curmudgeon mentor/love interest, found and true family, and long buried secrets… I found myself cheering for Althea from page 1 and loved to hate Wilder as soon as we met him. No spoilers, but their slow burn is done so well and I can’t wait for more in Vows & Ruin!

“It doesn’t matter who stands against you, what matters most is who stands with you.”

Read this book if you love;
• Slow Burn Romance
• Found Family
• Strong FMC
• Forbidden Love
• ‘Who Did This to You ?’

The plot is interesting, the mystery and prophecy keeps me interested from the beginning until the end. The writing style is easy to read which makes it easier in envisioning some of the battle scenes and understanding the world building.

This story is told in dual POV, Wilder (MMC) and Althea (FMC).
Most of the story was told from Althea’s POV and I really like her character. I admire her strength and determination in pursuing her dream even though she knows her time is limited.

As for the romance, I’m rooting for both Althea and Wilder from the beginning. I can feel the spark and the high tension between the two of them with the bickering and flirting they throw to one another!

Not only great main characters, the secondary characters are also well developed like Kipp and Cal.
I love the friendship they build with Althea by the way they look out for each other throughout the story. They also liven up the story, especially with Kipp’s story and charming attitude!

Beware of the huge cliff-hanger at the end.
Even though I had my suspicion about something, the plot twist still manage to surprised me. Now I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2!

Overall, this is a well written story and a great start for a fantasy series. It's highly enjoyable, entertaining and I recommend it to fantasy lovers!

I’m looking forward to see what happen next with Althea discovering the truth of her identity and her relationship with Wilder.

Thank you to Paper Myths and the author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

You can tell this is the 10th book the author has written, it’s so easy to read - but that doesn’t mean it’s simple in its writing.
The world building is seamless, the plot constantly keeps you engaged & invested in the story, the hidden Easter eggs give you just enough foreshadowing without slapping you over the head, the FMC is interesting & strong & the love dynamic & tension between Thea & Wilder Hawthorne is PERFECTION !
I absolutely devoured this book, I didn’t want to put it down & I’m not only invested in the world & characters I am itching to see what happens next!
For an adult Romantasy debut (previously the author has written epic YA fantasy series) I think this was extremely well done. It hits all the notes you want in an epic fantasy adventure but with a FMC that thinks like an adult & more adult themes.
I can’t wait for B2!
The author provided me with an arc for an honest review
