“It doesn’t matter who stands against you, what matters most is who stands with you.”

Read this book if you love;
• Slow Burn Romance
• Found Family
• Strong FMC
• Forbidden Love
• ‘Who Did This to You ?’

The plot is interesting, the mystery and prophecy keeps me interested from the beginning until the end. The writing style is easy to read which makes it easier in envisioning some of the battle scenes and understanding the world building.

This story is told in dual POV, Wilder (MMC) and Althea (FMC).
Most of the story was told from Althea’s POV and I really like her character. I admire her strength and determination in pursuing her dream even though she knows her time is limited.

As for the romance, I’m rooting for both Althea and Wilder from the beginning. I can feel the spark and the high tension between the two of them with the bickering and flirting they throw to one another!

Not only great main characters, the secondary characters are also well developed like Kipp and Cal.
I love the friendship they build with Althea by the way they look out for each other throughout the story. They also liven up the story, especially with Kipp’s story and charming attitude!

Beware of the huge cliff-hanger at the end.
Even though I had my suspicion about something, the plot twist still manage to surprised me. Now I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2!

Overall, this is a well written story and a great start for a fantasy series. It's highly enjoyable, entertaining and I recommend it to fantasy lovers!

I’m looking forward to see what happen next with Althea discovering the truth of her identity and her relationship with Wilder.

Thank you to Paper Myths and the author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

Short review!
The characters were the stand-out of this book! I instantly fell in love with ALL of them, like I will revolt if anything happens to them! Wilder, best book boyfriend like almost ever! Althea the PERFECT MC, loved her attitude and fighting spirit! Kipp and Cal, I will die for them, so precious love their friendship! The plot was so good!! I could not put the book down and was invested in every single page! The world-building was easy to understand but still complex and interesting! I cannot wait for the next book and HIGHLY recommend this to you all!
It has all the good tropes! Found family, enemies to lovers, who did this to you, touch her and you die, a heroine wanting to prove herself in a man’s world and kicking ass along the way, royals with magic, one horse, forbidden love and slow burn with AMAZING tension. These tropes are all done so well and I seriously need you to read this book!!

Extended Review
I cannot express how much I loved this book! Like our FMC Althea? One of the best!! I love her brash and fierce attitude, she isn't afraid to show a man up and has more than enough skills to do it! In Thezmarr women are forbidden from carrying weapons because of a prophecy that claims a woman wielding a sword would bring darkness upon the kingdom. But Thea has set her sights on becoming a Warsword, the highest class of warriors and nothing will stand in her way! Not even her fate stone, which foretells her the age she will die.
Enter WILDER HAWTHORNE. The youngest Warsword, the hottest Warsword and the man who stole my heart. He is broody, he is grumpy and he is a warrior of steel who has a sweet side. He was so protective! And the touch her you die trope done PERFECTLY, the who did this to you trope also done PERFECTLY. They were so great as a couple with so much tension, they annoyed each other, they flirted then finally came together only to get torn apart again! Helen writes this guy so well I am tempted to go and read her other books just to see what the men are like there. Like seriously! Did I mention it was dual POV?

"I think that I have never known someone to be so infuriating... someone who makes my blood boil in such a way that I want to kill you and kiss you all at once."

"I find you endlessly infuriating, and yet..." "yet" "And yet I can't seem to stay away."

Ok enough of my fan-girling over Wilder. Back to Althea, she was such a great FMC and I loved her attitude and the fight inside her. Also the FOUND FAMILY!! Kipp and Cal ughghh i loved them, I would do anything for them, they are so precious. I love their friendship!!

As you can tell the characters were written SO well and I instantly fell in love with them! The plot was also amazing! I read like 70% of this book in one day because I could not put it down! The suspense! The fighting! The Plot twists!! The world-building! I literally have no negative things to say about this book!! SO PLEASE READ IT!!

You can tell this is the 10th book the author has written, it’s so easy to read - but that doesn’t mean it’s simple in its writing.
The world building is seamless, the plot constantly keeps you engaged & invested in the story, the hidden Easter eggs give you just enough foreshadowing without slapping you over the head, the FMC is interesting & strong & the love dynamic & tension between Thea & Wilder Hawthorne is PERFECTION !
I absolutely devoured this book, I didn’t want to put it down & I’m not only invested in the world & characters I am itching to see what happens next!
For an adult Romantasy debut (previously the author has written epic YA fantasy series) I think this was extremely well done. It hits all the notes you want in an epic fantasy adventure but with a FMC that thinks like an adult & more adult themes.
I can’t wait for B2!
The author provided me with an arc for an honest review
