I liked the story and appreciated that it didn’t feel like many similar books currently making the rounds, but the pacing felt a bit uneven and it failed to make an emotional impact so I was never fully engaged.

a fun ride. nothing earth shattering. the stakes felt a little low and nothing really... happens. I will be reading the second one... hopefully it's a little more eventful. It looks like there's a more even spit with his chapters which is nice since his chapters were kinda my favourite.

anywho it was fun. would recommend but dont be expecting anything earth-shattering. Also for a fantasy book it didn't feel like there was much fantasy 🤔🫣

Again, a little biased coming off another book high. Althea does grow on you, if anything you need to get through the constant i-need-to-be-a-warrior thing she has going. To be fair, given that she has an expiry date, and it sort of feels like she's trapped in her own skin, I can't quite blame her.

There are parts of the story that I felt were relatively slower than it needed to be, however I do recognise that it was necessary so that we could really delve into their mindsets and watch how Althea grows out of being a little self centred - harsh but also true.

The only thing that's stopping me from giving this a higher rating is the relationship. I couldn't see it beyond lust, and maybe this is something that grows further down the line. I certainly hope so.

It took me forever to get through this. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book over 500 pages and I think it showed when I started this one. It was so slow to develop. I respected Thea’s determination but I didn’t connect to her character so it really took time to feel invested. Wilder also didn’t wow me. He just came across as a bit bland. He was angry and a loner and that’s all I knew. It was only once Thea began her training I truly felt invested and even that took time.

In the end, this was a good story but it did feel unnecessarily long. Like a lot of the world billing and things that happened could have been condensed down. It was too much repetition at the beginning that had me questioning if I really wanted to keep reading. I am intrigued and might finish the series since it’s on KU.
