I'm intrigued by this story. I love retellings and stories based on mythology. I really enjoyed the first book and am ready to continue the series.

This book started with a 3.5. It had an interesting premise and I was curious about why the mfc was so coveted by multiple gods in the arena. But once she was taken things went downhill. Personal issue but the inclusion of Monoply in a world of Greek mythology and magic really threw me.
Additionally for the mfc to go from wanting death to escape enslavement to wanting to fight to stay alive really threw me. It was just a quick turn around at a weird moment. I think she was also meant to be strong and rebellious but a lot of her one liners and arguments to gods came off very childish.
I also felt like there was a lot of 'tell not show' with everyone being obsessed with her and even knowing who she was it got annoying.
The first 150ish pages were good and I was into it despite my few nit picky things but the second half of the book felt clunky and a lot of dialogue felt forced and I was honestly reading just so I hadn't wasted time reading the first half with a dnf.

Ichor is the embodiment of what I want a mythology book to be. The main character, Saffron, was beautifully written. She goes through so much growth and I loved following along for the ride. I thought I knew a lot about Greek mythology but the amount I learned in this book was truly amazing!
It was definitely a fresh new take on a mythological world where all the Olympians fight to own humans and is them as slaves in their houses. It’s a very bleak world for the humans. When it was Saffron’s turn to be fought for in the arena, more Gods and Goddesses than ever before enter the arena floor to own her. And so starts the adventure that leads us to believe Saffron is no ordinary human!
Tropes:
Slow Burn
The Chosen One
Arranged Marriage

I enjoyed this far more than I expected to.
The world building was spot on- it gave us enough to know who everyone was and what was happening without completely overloading us with information.
Hermes is my favourite character so far, and I can’t wait to see how Saffron grows as a character. I enjoyed the inclusion of Hades and Persephone as well

Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it either. I’ll read the 2nd book to find out what happens. It’s definitely YA. I felt like the character and relationship building could have been better.
