I’ve been working on this one for months-I like to take my time with poetry collections and this one was no easy feat. I have loved Audre Lorde for many years but haven’t ever taken the time to really sit with her words until now. She captures the raw pain of Black loss, Black joy, and Black love so deeply. I felt intrusive in some of her words and immersed in others. This was an incredible collection, and I think I will return to it often.

Writing about some of Lorde's poetry for work, again

I struggle with reading poetry and am therefore drawn to poets that emphasize historical or political themes that I can grasp on to. Lorde does not disappoint - this collection is arranged chronologically, so you can see Lorde's changing concerns and stages of life - none of it seems wasted or tacked on.

Brilliant works by a brilliant author. Worth the time (and definitely worth checking out of the library multiple times to finish)!

Such a beautiful book of poetry! Because Audre republished, there are quite a few duplicates of each poem.
