Lucan’s portrayal of destroyed nature is vivid, and my favorite part of the book. His demonic illustration of Caesar is interestingly one sided but offers a nice balance to the copious amount of Caesar-praising literature in golden age rome. I think Lucan did a good job, but was not as awesome as Vergil.

Wow, Lucan is definitely among the greatest poets like Virgil and Ovid. His grotesque physical, geometric, descriptive, ethnographic, cartographic geology spans the whole Civil War, when the first triumvirate clashed among themselves.

Lucan is a splendid poet. It is a hard read though.
