I’m clearly (and honestly, understandably) in the minority here; but I really liked this, and I didn’t think it was slow at all. I thought there was enough intrigue to keep me hooked, and hints were revealed very slowly in a way that allowed me to make my own guesses. It was fun to see it all unfold slowly. I did struggle through the first few chapters, but once Feyre
got to the Court
I was good.

The only minor thing I could not bear:
the riddle was so painfully obvious that I was internally screaming the answer for the entire third act.

But it was really a fun read otherwise.

I know I’m like 10 years late to reading this but I was totally fine being ~not like the other book girlies~ and refusing to read this series because everyone else was obsessed with it. And for what? To act like that somehow made me better? Perhaps for a time it soothed me to roll my eyes at talk of faerie romance and all the tedious world building of courts and magic and such… except why? Literally why. Why do I do this to myself. I love Twilight, The Hunger Games—I jumped on those bandwagons early on, so why did I put this one off for so long just to inevitably devour it??

Yeah fantasy isn’t usually my thingggggg but people change!!!

✨ she’s a High Fae girly now!!!!! ✨ (Please read this next line in that one voice from Shrek) ANYTHING FOR YOU, MY LORD!!!

Anyway, Feyre is an awesome protagonist and I’m so looking forward to what next awaits her in Prythian…

Where to begin... this was just horrible. Literally a remix of Twilight. I don't get why this is popular. Read something better written, please.

This book was really great at setting the foundation for the second book. It really helped with the world building, but as a result, it was a little lacklustre. It was kind of like the first chapter of a book: you have to get through it so you can understand the rest of the book. It’s the first chapter of the series. That being said,
the Beauty and the Beast theme was interesting but made half the book very slow. I appreciate the dedication to slowly laying out information that would foreshadow the conclusion and allowing us to see their love grow naturally, but i nearly gave up at the halfway point because of how much Feyre seemed to lose her sense of self as she fell in love with Tamlin. She became more comfortable and unshackled by the worries of her mortal life, yes, but she almost became meek and docile in the home. Guess that kind of also explains why she didn’t fight to stay when Tamlin sent her back to the mortal realm. Everything can be explained away, but the main character was disappointing.
