I listened to the graphic audio on Spotify which is the only way I'll go through this series. The graphic audio is incredible. It's a full cast with music and sound effects. The only downside is I have no idea what chapter I'm on. It feels like an old-timey radio show but modern.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.  (This is going to be a very unpopular rating).  2 out of 5 stars.  I purchased the physical book from Amazon in 2021.

Why 2 stars?  It was professionally edited and had no typos that I could see.  I did finish it.

Why only 2 stars?  I started out reading this book with high hopes because it has been so hyped up.  If I had not paid money for this book, I would not have finished it.  I could not like the characters.  They had no redeeming qualities and their interactions with each other were just…lacking.  Every relationship (romantic or otherwise) was TOXIC.  Some more so than others.  ***Vague Spoilers*** The storyline had the potential to be really good.  If she was going to have 5 books in the series anyway, why not have the second half (after she came back to him) be its own book.  I got to that part and kind of deflated my hopes.  Also, I am not a fan of conflict ridden love triangles, so the love square was too much.

Some readers may really enjoy this book.  I did not.  I would caution young readers to wait on this book because of the adult themes within.

Okay, this book was weak sauce. I want to say that I was told this was fairy smut, but it’s not; it’s romance with a fantasy element and that’s okay, but sheesh these characters are so unlikable.

Having already read the second in the series, I’m just going to say I’m glad I proceeded with it. Everything is muuuuch better.

honestly I would've given this a 3 star had the third act not been so bad. I liked everyone else except feyre (who is NOT a strong fmc... I don't know where people get that notion). honestly if nesta would have been the main character this would bring it up a star for me. otherwise, the third act really made this book worse for me. I felt like SJMs writing got significantly worse and repetitive and everything was easily predictable. what really sealed the deal for me was how romanticized feyre's suffering was. honestly I had to put the book down sometimes. I read a lot of dark stuff so I don't think it was the content but rather the portrayal and romantization of the abuse feyre suffered.

kind of spoiler for the future of the series:
what i especially dont like is that the majority of the abuse comes from rhysand, feyres actual endgame love interest. and it gets kind of excused bc he was amaranthas sex slave but i feel like what he did was still so unnecessary? i haven't read ACOMAF yet but i feel like there has to be some really bad character assassination on tamlins part to make rhysand look a lot better because what he did in this book is NOT GOOD

I only liked the middle of the book and some chapters by the end, the rest is too slow pace, very weak plot, and some moments I felt bad reading it
