I absolutely love this book. It has some great historical context and it is based on a true story. The story line is intriguing and enthralling, making it difficult to stop from finishing the book in one single day. Hasse Simonsdochter/Van Schaffelaer is one of the strongest female characters ever written. She stands her ground and doesn't give up, even during difficult times. This book will always belong on my favourite list; it is definitely worthy of its spot.

Mijn favoriete jeugdboek. Ik heb een Boektoppers versie, die haast uit elkaar valt. Ik ben voornemens de hardcover versie eerdaags te kopen.. Hij blijft leuk!
Ik betwijfel of dit boek de jeugd van nu nog aanspreekt, maar ik vond het prachtig!

I read this book in Dutch as a child. It transported me to a time when girls had no rights and in which 1 girl stood up for her people. I enjoyed reading a book with a strong girl character before all the girl-power stuff in the '90s.
