Book was fine, probably. I simply thought I could do 2 lit fics in a row and I was sorely mistaken!

This was a beautiful story but I think a bit brought down by a pretty dry writing style. I could identify the emotional moments but feel like they weren’t really given room to breathe, due to a ton of mundane descriptive text surrounding them.

This is one of those interpersonal books where nothing really happens. The story lies in the drama between the characters, their thoughts and feelings as they wrap themselves in their inner fears and anxieties.

It's raw and honest. It's not necessarily enjoyable.ets be honest, it's a very sad book. The characters are flawed and very human, stumbling through life in ways we can all relate to. It's a refreshing story to read and I'm glad that it's out there.

I think for me this isn't a book I can rate more highly because it's just a little dull. Nothing actually happens and I found the ways the main characters behaved too 'normal'. Perhaps that just what makes it relatable for so many other reviewers. All in all, I just can't find it in me to love it.

Bellies is like if Skins were a book in the 2020s. No character is really a perfect person. Many have some messed up stuff to deal with - and they pften don't do so with much elegance. There's a lot of drugs, parties, and sex. One of the characters is named Cass.

But like Skins drew me in before, so did Bellies. It's an impressively written, intimate, and tangible book. I loved the place food and touch and friendships held. It felt loving and warm. Bellies had its flaws - the middle section was slightly slow for me, some aspects felt a bit too smooth, and I didn't buy into Ming and Tom's relationship as much as the book told me I should - but it was overall a tender and sweet novel. And I appreciate its dealing with trans themes and difficulties in a transition without this becoming the sole focus of the book, or a complete sadness and misery draw.
