I will start of with saying I enjoyed this book, I didn't love it because I'm personally not a huge fan of the genre. Ferris's writing is amazing though so I went along with all the twist and turns because really once I started I had to know the truth about everything going on in Ebony Marshall's life. Honestly I had no idea where this book was going most of the time which made it a really interesting read.

Thrillers are absolutely not my thing, but I though I'd give this one a try anyway, because why not? I wasn't really expecting the demon angle, but it was perfect in the sense that things moved quickly, I was never confused, and Ebony is an appealing, complex heroine. However, I struggled to understand why Father Ratchet was so insane and cruel. I also found that the plot didn't surprise me that much. Like, at about two thirds through the book I was totally terrified, but then it all turned out okay, there was no big escalation towards the end. But a solid, decent read for all that!

Read this in one night. Could not put it down. Was such an interesting mystery book which had a lot of twists and turns. Black was a great character because she is strong and resourceful. Loved it.

Such a thrilling and easy read! I didn't want to put it down because I just wanted to know what was happening!
I haven't read anything like this but now definitely want to try more!

so the state wide blackout was good for reading a lot, at least.
i smashed this bad boy out in a few hours, and it was really enticing from start to finish.
i really enjoyed how this story unfolded, from Ebony's "curse" right to the ending (JUSTICE!) too.
overall, a really good read.

5/5 stars.
