My experience with O'Leary books are hit and miss - a few I've really loved, others fell flat. This one was towards the latter end. I didn't hate it and was entertained enough, but I should have loved it, considering I'm a Brazilian who studied hospitality (two major points of the book). So much of it was the two characters moping about how much they want to be with each other but won't admit it (and it was too much talk of all their sexual tension), which to me detracted from the story. Also, I was surprised to find myself annoyed at the constant references to Brazilian culture; none particularly inaccurate, but they felt forced to me. It was the first time I really saw a Brazilian character in non-Brazilian art forms, so I'm curious if this happens to everyone who runs into their own culture represented in this way, or if it's something unique to me (or if the author just didn't hit the mark on making it seamless).
Anyway, I'll still keep reading O'Leary's work since every once in a while she gives us something so original and clever - this one wasn't one of them though.

I had high hopes for this one because I adored The Flatshare - that was probably one of my all-time favorite rom-com reads. It was different than a lot of other books within the genre. It felt believable yet still so romantic, and the characters were so easy to like. Human and imperfect but easy to sit with. It was a refreshingly sweet story. But this one? It kinda just falls flat.
The premise was cute but it lost steam quickly for me just past the halfway point. I understand her intention was to create characters that are flawed but endearing, and I felt that Lucas fit the bill. But Izzy? Meh, not so much. For a better part of the story, she’s less than charming and her attitude towards him feels much less like I-have-unresolved-feelings-for-you and more like she doesn’t actually like him as a person, she just thinks he’s superrrr attractive and wants to bang him, but she can’t stand him. Until she sleeps with him and changes her mind, sort of.
I really wanted to love this one but ultimately I felt like, by the end, I was just ready to move on to my next read.

It’s giving wattpad in the first couple of chapters. Very "I threw my hair up into a messy bun and put on some mascara" vibes
