Perfect, cozy, and warm.
The miscommunication trope is a little bit stretched, but maybe it's just me (spending a whole year torturing each other and not talking about it seems undoable), but I see how it can work.
The reason for Lucas to stay in the UK and the reason why he'd come in the first place are unclear (a phrase about "the best place to study hotel management" is skippable and forgettable. On the other hand, his connection to his family and the longing for his home is clearly strong. Maybe the uncle plotline was supposed to play into his staying somehow, but it was too underdeveloped to have any such major impact.
Other than that it's a wonderful read and my best Beth O'Leary book yet.

me, when my hold comes in: wake up babe, the new beth o'leary dropped

me, 3 chapters in: oh no this is enemies to lovers and there is a miscommunication trope noooooooo

I normally adore O'Leary but not this.

Points for recognizing COVID happened. Points docked for the hotel owner saying "no matter what, we are a family" and it being received positively by employees. Please read the Hot Labor Summer room, O'Leary, saying that is a red flag now. If my place of employment said that to me, I'd be opening up my resume.

Someone write me a workplace romance set during unionization efforts, please. Enemies to lovers could work well... opposite sides of the picket, one of them is properly schooled on workers rights and comes around...it could be done. Or hell, even better, a friends to lovers romance as both fight the system for workers rights.

This was great fun and I adored it!
