A cute, solid, historical queer romance. I got a bit frustrated by how oblivious and annoying Eddie could be, I felt quite bad for Rose, and I hated Nash from the start, but I still enjoyed the book overall.

probably wasn’t in a space to fully enjoy this but the columns at the end were a cute detail

Perhaps it is just me but I can not phathom why anyone would compare this book to bridgerton AT ALL. What I wanted was two society women PINNING while still keeping up with apperence. But instead I got ONE women pinning the other being wishy washy the ENTIRE time all in on a FUCKING ISLAND AWAY FROM ANY SOCIETY WHATSOEVER. It was hardly a romance at all, when there was it was fine. I did like Rose but Eddie was continuously unlikable because of her little "crush". Speaking of I very much called him stealing her work, it wasn't the plot twist it thought it was. AND THEN you have that whole bit right before the end that made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. Why are we trying to turn this "romance" into a god damn thriller. And a bad one at that. Also the end scene where Eddie is shocked by the lady's in society also like reading and poetry WHILE SHE IS ALSO A LADY IN SOCIETY WHO ENJOYS READING AND POETRY, was a terrible way to end the book in my opinion.

Nash gave me the creeps instantly, a reminder of my BA Creative Writing days at Uni and a reminder of why I no longer partake in those circles. He was instantly irritating and I got mad at Eddie for not realising that he had ulterior motives earlier. She was very much the densest and most naive character in the entire book and while I was angry on her behalf, I was angry at her actions and obliviousness more often.
