DNF at 60%

I think this was more me then the book. I just couldn't get into it and it wasn't holding my attention which is a shame because I loved the first couple of chapters. I'm giving it a fair rating because it wasn't horrible just not my cup of tea.

You'd think meeting a guy who drives drunk and crashes his motorbike in your garden would kill any chance of romance, that's not the case in this book. Which is good, otherwise there wouldn't be a story. At first it's about Libby and Killian getting to know each other, but then real life comes knocking at their door. I like the characters, but the romance could have had some more spark. Now it feels a little flat. There is attraction, but is it really love? Despite that I enjoyed the book. I like that the book doesn't stop when things are about to get hard.

Kristen Callihan is an underrated author and I've never seen one of her books on Bookstagram. If it weren't for Audible Plus, I'd never have heard of her. I have listened to two of her books now, "The Hook Up” which was a football romance and now “Idol,” a rockstar romance.

I enjoyed the story overall although some pieces felt a bit forced and the end was a bit cliched. I like the celebrity-commoner trope  so this worked for me. Killian and Libby both inspire each other and it was really sweet, had good burn and good plot.

Narration by Lynn Barrington and Jeremy York was good. It did take me a while to get past the she-does-he voice though.

This was a fun and simple rock star romance, but I didn’t love it like I thought I would. This just seems to be missing some of the charm I found in Kristen Callihan’s other titles. The chemistry between Killian and Libby felt a little forced at times, which was such a bummer because there was so much potential there. I enjoyed reading about Libby’s journey of self discovery after the traumatic deaths of her parents, and also the ways that Killian tried to support her in whatever ways he could despite going through his own struggles. I also loved every single side character…probably more than our main couple if we’re being honest.

Also, where was the angst?! Any conflict between the two would quickly resolve before anything could build or just fell flat altogether. However…while I’m all about the angst I do recognize that not everyone does, so let’s chalk that up to personal preference
