I really had a difficult time reading about the abuse of the child and the postpartum issues the women were dealing with. It may be a great book, but I just can’t read it.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I was really enthralled but then lost my interest toward the end because it ended kind of abruptly and it felt a little predictable. I was hoping we would get some other perspective outside of Blythe because I thought she was unreliable. But overall, I really enjoyed the audiobook!

this book makes me feel sad. while it reminded me of “we need to talk about kevin”, i feel like it delved more into how neglect, trauma and experiences become part of us and can move through generations. the power of connection that bodies are capable of is wild. while we think of mothers as all one kind of way - giving their life, body and energy to a growing life from the very beginning - we don’t always think of how the negative feelings can also be felt.

while i enjoyed reading the book, it  left me feeling sad and i’m not sure i’d recommend it to a friend, especially one who is a mother

Such a page turner. I was addicted. I'm not a parent, but the writing is so absorbing that you understand completely what the characters are going through and feeling. The characters aren't particularly likeable, but they are real, relatable, and fully realised. I cared what happened to them.

It's dark. It's tense. And some bits made me sob. Incredible writing, that left me wanting more. It's not an easy read subject wise, but it made me think about what I would do in similar situations. Such a different book about motherhood than I have read before. Expertly done!

I devoured this book and finished it in less than a day. The Push is a truly gripping, fast paced psychological thriller about the intricacies of motherhood and nature versus nurture. In it, a mother struggles to bond with her newborn daughter. As the child grows, their relationship continues to deteriorate and eventually calls into question whose retelling of events is reliable. Audrain’s debut is a compelling and multifaceted story and I will definitely read more from her.
