An uneven debut by Paula Daly (what am I, a theater critic?). I did enjoy this book, but thought that there were too many things going on in the plot that weren't quite connected or necessary. Characters not fully developed, events that seem a bit random.
This was a jarring memorable book for a variety of reasons. Laura Brattan's narration was fabulous! She found tears, she found tension, she drew up anger, and she displayed all of those at exactly the right amount throughout the book to make it even better than merely reading a braille edition.
Lisa is a harried sometimes frazzled mom. She doesn't feel she's as good a mom as her friend, Kate, for example. She tries hard, and she fiercely loves her kids, but she's not always as together as she'd like to be.
When Lisa's daughter's friend goes missing prior to visiting Lisa's house, Kate blames Lisa for not being more careful and thoughtful of the kids, for not knowing where her daughter went.
This is that nightmare book about a missing early teen girl. It's the story of a good mom who is unjustly blamed for something that horrifies the community and severely stresses Lisa and her family. It will stay with you long after the book ends. And things are not what they seem to be for sure.

A good story that makes you realise do you really know people as well as you think you do. Some good twists towards the end that I didn't see coming. A story, that as a parent, will send shivers up your spine.
This was a good book but there were some things included that I just don't understand why they were there. I'm still puzzling about it. It was almost like she just needed to fill some more pages so she included storylines that really didn't add to the story.

"Just What Kind of Mother Are You" was a fantastic read. I was hooked from the very beginning. The characters were well developed, and the story line flowed beautifully.
There were a few plot points that I felt could have been left out, such as Joanne's breast reduction and the one-night stand between Lisa and Adam, but other than that, I have no complaints about the book.
The author managed to keep the twist cleverly hidden almost until the end of the book, although I did have some suspicions before the truth was revealed.
I found this book an interesting commentary on modern motherhood. In full disclosure, I am not a mother myself, but virtually all of my friends are mothers of multiple children. It seems that motherhood has turned into a competitive sport; who's child has the most after-school activities; who gets the best grades, who takes the most advanced classes...it seems never-ending and absolutely exhausting. This book captured that very well; giving a voice to those mothers who feel like they just can't keep up with all of the "perfect" mothers they are unwillingly "competing" with. It makes me feel very happy to not be a part of that world.
I especially enjoyed the afterword where the author describes the situation that inspired her to write this novel. I often wonder where authors find their inspiration, and Ms. Daly was kind enough to let her readers know. I wish more authors would give their readers more insight into their creative process.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Ms. Daly.

3.5. Pretty average but entertaining. It’s a quick read.
4.5/5 In the last 10 days I have listened to every one of Paula Daly's books. She is among one of my favorite authors now. I can't find the audio of No Remorse, but I'm sure it's great. Will read the hard copy.
I give this book a 4.4 or so.
I did quite like it but I knocked it down from being a full 5 stars because I felt like the end result was ~slightly~ predictable. Not overwhelmingly so but enough that I was like, "Okay. I guess I could've seen that coming." I feel like there could have been a different path taken besides Munchausen.
Truthfully, though, I did like how this story played out. There were - in fact - certain things I didn't see coming.
Overall, great book!
