WOW! This book certainly surprised me, it is a book full of action & suspense. You don't know who is who and who you can or can't trust.
The story starts with the ancestry of Great Alexander, ancient Greek history, and mythology. As my heritage is Greek, it is a certainly a subject that interests me. Loved that at the beginning we are in a small town in the United States, (even though the main character has traveled all over the United States) she travels without a passport to different parts of Europe.
The book reminds me the Dan Brown's books, that I really enjoyed, but this series is for a young audience, as Avery, the main character, isn't yet 17. It is a book that you have an entangled spool and when you think that you have unraveled the tangle, boom another part of the spool is again tangled. I am happy that the other two books in the trilogy are out so I can read the continuation of the story because Maggie Hall left the first book in a cliffhanger and I know that the second book of the series has also a huge cliffhanger.
You know that Maggie Hall is a well-traveled author because the descriptions of the places are very detailed. I like her writing and I also know it won't be the last book I will read from Maggie Hall. Please read the book without knowing nothing about it. on my next book haul, I know that the second and third book will be bought.

I had high expectations for this novel and it certainly did not disappoint!
It had everything I wanted from the action-packed moments, the romance, slight humour, and conspiracy theories which just kept me reading.
'Twas a fun read~! :)

DNF

jillheather's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

DNF.

There's this group of 12 families who run the world -- all the governments, start the wars, assassinate the leaders, manipulate the stock markets, change the covers of fashion magazines. All the conspiracy theories are true! There's another group that thinks these families have too much power.

Okay, that could be an interesting plot.

Then there's a prophecy about a (teenage) girl with violet eyes. So hot young teenage boys, one from each conspiracy, are trying to get her on their side. And I don't know what happened next because it hit my limit for stupidity there.

No ending.....

hmmmm i liked this, very tropey for sure but i did like the hunt for who the One was. I kind of figured who it would be early on, so it was no surprise. lol i liked Jack for the first half and I still do, but rip I might just be more biased towards Stellan now after certain scene that made me *emotional*.

Some random notes:

That one scene with Jack and Avery was so obvious lmao i was so embarrassed, i KNEW it was going to happen, but i deluded myself to think nothing would truly happen. Haha welp.

The way Avery was Thrusted into the world was interesting and kind of comical. Of course it was bc of a boy. Lmao.

I liked how they pieced things together through the history and the different locations they went to. It was pretty neat.

Lol this review is sorely lacking, but I don't have a lot of things to say, it was pretty solid and I will probably pick up the sequel soon.

Actual rating: 3.5 stars

It was my kind of book- prophecies, ancient families, conspiracies and tragedy. But the story took forever to get going, and I only got into it near the middle- and then it ended.

Full review to come soon!

Avery West has just discovered that she actually has a family, aside from her mother that is, and that they are some of the most powerful people on the planet. They are part of a secret society called The Circle and they have essentially been pulling all of the strings behind the scenes on the world's stage for a very long time - let's just say that World War II was a disagreement between the twelve families who make up the secret society. They believe Avery could be at the center of an ancient prophecy that could change everything. Some want to use her and others would rather see her dead. Now, she has to stay a few steps ahead of them and work out the mystery surrounding the prophecy which will reveal a massive conspiracy that just might end in another world war. She will need to make plenty of decisions about her personal safety, family, and freedom if she wants the ones she loves to survive - not to mention choose between the boy she's falling for and the boy who could help her save the world.

The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall is a fun, fast-paced, jet setting read with international conspiracies, thrilling chases, and Destiny. It has a lot of things going for it and it's even compared to an old favorite, The Da Vinci Code, which is actually somewhat accurate. I even enjoyed the alternate look at history through the lens of the secret society. Admittedly, though, that did get a bit bogged down by some infodumps, and the convoluted nature of their goals and the massive scale of everything.

What really disturbed me about this story is our main character, Avery. She makes some of the dumbest, most irrational decisions I've seen in quite awhile. It isn't just one doozy, she consistently makes astoundingly foolish decisions from the beginning. I have a feeling that this story would have turned out entirely different if her stalker (aka Jack) hadn't been hot and British, or if the Russian Viking (aka Stellan) didn't look like he had just stepped off of a modeling runway - or if Avery had actually listened to her mother in the first place. Anyway, Avery isn't the brightest, so it's a good thing there are hot boys fighting over her to take her mind off of the really tough stuff.

I'd say this pretty accurately describes Avery's decision making skills for the majority of the story:

Overall, The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall is a fun romp around the world, full of conspiracies spanning hundreds if not thousands of years, albeit with a real ding dong of a leading lady at the helm.

The real take-away of this story:
