Someone please remind me not to attempt any more Seethaler books. His characters are unpleasant and the stories go nowhere and say nothing. DNF.

A quiet story about ordinary people that gradually drew me in. Pacing felt a little slow to begin with, but by the end I was feeling very emotional! I wouldn't say it was a particularly cosy read, as the writer puts his characters through some difficult life events and doesn't sentimentalize them.
