Uff. Der Anfang des Buches war vielversprechend. Die Unterhaltungen zwischen den Figuren und die Details und Athmosphäre im Café, die mich an meine eigene Zeit als Angestellte erinnert haben, gefielen mir wirklich gut.

Je weiter man liest desto unnötig düsterer und widerlicher werden die Erzählungen. Einige Teile musste ich überspringen, da mir übel von den Details wurde. Man erkennt nicht wirklich einen roten Faden, ab dem zweiten Drittel des Buches war ich leider wirklich frustriert.

A rather dull book but it had sweet moments. I found the perspective jumping a bit hard to follow and get into at times but it did give a good larger context of the community. I wish it was organized in a more consistent way however.

Love how we follow this neighborhood through postwar development in the 60s. It’s a window into that time and place while also mirroring gentrification everywhere.

Thoughtful, introspective and quiet, this novel will transport you to another time and place where you can sit with the regulars and enjoy a cold beer on an autumn day.
