2 1/2 stars. The story itself was okay, the execution was not. At least for me. I've never read this author before and the description sounded cute. I didn't realize it was book 17 in a series. Barely into it I was feeling lost with all the names mentioned, so I looked it up. Had I known, I never would have started this. I got bored and ended up setting it aside, read another book, and came back to it. Unfortunately it didn't really get much better.
The author seemed to get hung up on describing in too much detail, trivial things that didn't matter to the story. Like the little girl that adopted a puppy, as to why it was important that the dog be in its cage in the car. Or why Jake chose one coat over the other. A little past the halfway point, i got bored again, nothing too exciting was going on, and I did a lot of skimming. I was curious enough to see how it was going to end, but I almost just quit reading it altogether. The ending was a bit anticlimactic for me. I won't be reading any more from this author.
