I'm getting too old for this, rip. I wrote a long ass review but this book doesn't come out for a while so I'll hold off posting it for now. But this book was okay, just not for me. It hit a lot of important topics that slapped but the romance was SUPER cringy and awkward. So much of this book was also annoying pop culture references that made me want to yeet myself off a cliff.

I liked it although some parts were a bit confusing, but that might have just been me. This book was good, although I immediately forgot what happened the day after I finished it. I think one of the best things about this book was the little sister Sophie. She was hilarious, and I think shes one of the main reasons I continued reading the book. I would recommend, but just be warned that it might not be one of the best romances you have read.

recommended to me by the bookseller at Tall Stories in Rock Hill, SC :)

aww cute! very YA, a little more YA than I hoped it would be but based on a relatively true story and CUTE! honestly a delightful and quick read, although a little youthfully cringe at times.

meu Deus acabei de perceber que nunca tinha colocado esse livro aqui?

tem muito tempo que já li, mas lembro de ter gostado bastante da temática. É bem fofinho e apresenta uma problemática tão pulsante de uma forma bem amigável.

This one just felt very stuck in stereotypes. The dialogue was dry and there was too much telling and not enough showing.

Jamie, a shy Jewish kid, and Maya, a Muslim girl end up going door to door with one another, campaigning for the next regional election. The opponent is a racist, specifically fighting for a ban on head and face coverings. Maya’s parents are also going through a divorce and her best friend is moving away. They lose the election, but learn lots about politics and of course, fall in love.

It just felt very cheesy and bland. Any feelings were written out in a simple, very not complex or mature way. I like that it’ll start a sub genre of politics in YA, but just was lacking in so much depth.

Really sweet. I loved the activism / political aspect of the story. It functions as a guide for young people, but it never felt preachy. Everything that happens comes from the story and the character development.

This was just the CUTEST YA book!! I loved every bit of it, and I definitely caught myself sighing contentedly at various parts. It’s just so stinking cute, and the reader is constantly rooting for nothing but happiness for Maya and Jamie. The authors’ note is really interesting as well, as elements of the story are based on their real life experiences with canvassing and trying to flip GA blue. If only they knew what was to come with Stacey Abrams and the 2020 election :)

Why’d I pick this read? Impulse pick at the library (totally judged the book by its cover... and title!)
