The story of Dorian Gray is a very familiar story, even if you read it for the first time, as it has had its distinct influence on all kinds of stories and series. It is still a wonderful story to read.

Wilde writes beautifully and provocatively. Some assertions in this story would be rebellious even now and I can only imagine how provocative it would be at the time the story was published. I am not usually one for highlighting or gathering quotes, but in this book I did. There are many interesting assertions about human nature, life and society that still ring true and are phrased wonderfully.

The one drawback for me was that, at times, the dialogues and monologues would be a bit redundant. For example the monologue where all the arts and their beauty were described. Not a major turnoff, and even written beautifully, still somewhat tedious to read through.

Curiosity killed the cat. Also, I'd rather be immortal and stay young forever. Also was Dorian a vampire?

Third reread since 2009. It is, quite simply, perfect. Oscar Wilde has perfected prose and poetry in storytelling.
