I needed something light & fast & easy after my last one so I picked this. #3 of Xanth series - Included: Liberal sprinklings of puns, heavy sprinklings of internal musings (pretty advanced ones for a 12 yr. old), life lessons, action & adventure, time travel, history, and a really big spider named Jumper. I liked him better than the main character Dor. I am remembering why I stopped reading this series - each book seems so uneven. I like parts but overall? I can do without reading it. Good thing this was a free copy from Bookmooch.
Still not as good as when I read the series when I was 10.
Don't know why but I love the Xanth books, especially Spell for Chameleon.

I wasn't sure that I would love this story, little boy's first crush on his nanny...yikes. But then it really became a coming of age story for Dor as he figured out the magician that he has the potential to become. His experiences inside the tapestry really help him to learn just how much he doesn't know and that that's ok. The reveal with Millie and Jonathan was pretty expected, but it was still fun. I love the humor in this series. Dor's adventure inside the tapestry and within the history of Xanth was just such fun. I enjoyed watching Dor figure out how to handle himself now that he wasn't a weak little boy, but instead finds himself in the body of a sword wielding barbarian. And best of all was his relationship with his new best friend. I LOVED his spider companion! Such a quirky idea and so much fun.

I liked this book. It was a little hard to get into at first. It is all about Dor quest to becoming a man. He learns what it takes to be a man. I liked how the book dealt difference between the different species. I also liked how the romance played out.
This is still an old favorite, mostly because of Jumper. Jumper <3!
Piers Anthony builds upon the Xanth mythos of the first two novels for a more-enjoyable third. This book still suffers from some of the inherent problems that exist in Piers Anthony novels, but I'd at least recommend this one to someone trying to get into the Xanth series.
A nice wrap-up to the Xanth series with an interesting take on time travel. Still a lot of fun with all the pun-y names including the flea in the ear. Wish I had read Piers Anthony when I was a teen.
Castle Roogna is the third book in the magic world of Xanth, where the magic side is much more cartoon like and the mundane like normal life. Here we have a story of a boy growing up, by being sent back 800 years into Xanth past to learn a number of adult lessons during a time whenmagic was much less refined and mundane intrudes far more into the magic land.
A light read, with a decidedly cartoon element to the magic world, but with some easily identified lessons of the difference between how adults and children think. If you want heavy serious fantasy go else where, but a fun read and this may be it.
