I...what the fuck was that??? First of all, the setting, character development, and evolution of the whole plot is really nice. The premise for The Unmarked Witch is wow...I know I'm a year or two late to the series but the way the world is designed and how we're introduced to all the moving pieces isn't something I think I've come across before. The closest I can think of is Goblet of Fire and that's because the whole premise of that is a competition/trial. Lyn does a really good job of explaining and taking us along on the trials that Raven and the other witches of Moon Coven undergo in order to find a new leader for the coven. In it, we not only see Raven grow and develop but there's also seeing how she faces her challenges not only in the trial but in herself. There's something for everyone and while I'm intrigued to see what continues in The Unbound Witch, I'm also a bit reluctant to continue. I want for her and her loved ones to have a good ending

Miranda Lyn's The Unmarked Witch is a comfort read of mine.
The worldbuilding:
The world that Miranda built in the book is one of my favorites. The concept of these covens where magic is housed, but where something sinister lurks created the perfect environment.
The characters:
Raven, Raven, Raven. I truly felt like I was on this ride with her. Every time something happened I felt a little bit more of the world Miranda built slipping away and Raven's sense of the world slipping through her fingers. There were times when I didn't even know who to trust. BUT honestly, the side characters sold it for me. They are so well written from the cruelest amongst them to the best (Kirsi).

The plot moves at a medium pace. There are moments of action, tragedy, and a bit of spice that are all rolled in together. Miranda does a good job of balancing all these different elements to keep the reader invested and interested in the story from start to finish.

DNF @ 52%. It had a fun premise, but not enough time was spent on the trials, and the dialogue kept taking me out of the book.

This Book began with great potential but ultimately fell short, feeling like a YA novel told from the perspective of an unremarkable main character. It relied on multiple overused troupes, poorly executed and felt heavily inspired by popular romantasy authors who handle the genre with far more finesse. The highlight was the cliffhanger ending, but I am more likely to read spoilers for the sequel than continue the series.
I devoured this book. I really enjoyed how the author setup the world with the different covens. I thought the trials were unique and added some high stakes.
Bastian fits the morally grey character well. A lot of his choices are for the best of everyone but come across negative. Which made him an interesting character to unravel.
Raven had a lot of mystery around her being unmarked. Which was cool as there was more than just her unmarked. So she wasn’t the only one witch to be unmarked. I think the author did a good job with pacing and setting the romance.
I’m excited to jump into book 2!

One of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given. Great writing, amazing characters, beautiful tension, interesting plot. The last 100 pages had me in an absolute chokehold, there were so many 180s with my emotions but in the best of ways. This is an ADULT Romantasy and there are definitely adult themes and descriptions so keep that in mind. Highly anticipating the next book in this duology!
so stinking FUN !! I am a sucker for trials/ games in a book and this delivered- fun plot, IMMACULATE TENSION, excited for book 2!!
I wanted to give it a 4 but decided on a 3.5 as there are some things I didn't like.
Onyx for example we have few scenes with him being mean and then nothing for the rest of the book like he is not part of the story anymore and one scene when he is back being mean.
Also the parallel of the cabin and the one from ACOTAR series is just copy/paste...
On the other side I really liked the relationship between Raven and Kirsi, Bastian is super intriguing, Grey is also part of my favorites with his behaviour and humour.
The story as well was very well constructed, I was not expecting the revelation at the end.
Overall a good read :)
