Fantastic. Basically a 40k horror novel, something the setting desperately needs more of. Truly shows the horrific and corrupting power of chaos reflected against the cold inhumanity of the Iron Hands and the fragile, empathetic legion serfs. A dour, depressing story, but a compelling and different one from the usual stories in this series.

Complex feelings about this novel. Does a lot right and very well, but also maybe didn't have the impact intended. This is in part because I also didn't get the significance of certain aspects until I read the author's note at the end. We're now well into the portion of the Heresy that I am not familiar with.

Very tired of these "filler" type books in this series. 30 books in and they are no where near the final battle for Earth.

Not a very good read. Doesn't tie into the overall story, doesn't reveal very much about the Iron Hands, and is a bit of a struggle to get through some parts.
