I know that the Eddingses just wrote the same story five times with slightly different filters, but BOY HOWDY, DID THEY EVER. Anyway, I am having an absolute BLAST picking this series apart for what bits came from the Belgariad and which came from the Elenium. It is very silly and very great.

I could not care less about the characters and the big evil bad. Like the bug men can eat them all for all I care.

I really enjoyed this book. I am and have been a big fan of Eddings so I was really excited to get my hands on this book. Yes, the character development does take quite a bit of time, but I feel that it is worth it in the end because it explains why everything happens. At times Eddings does repeat himself a bit too much, but I still enjoyed how he wrote the story from the different perspectives because it gives you the reader more of a feel for the characters. Overall, I think that it is worth a read.

Boring, boring, boring. Stilted, awkward, repetitive writing that reads like someone just trying to tick all the "I'm writing a fantasy novel" boxes. Can't even fathom reading an entire series of this sludge.
