I wasn't too happy that the last volume suddenly decided to give us Xie Lian's backstory; it felt incredibly out of place. Though it does continue in this book, we know meet Xie Lian as a newly ascended god. He didn't feel as immature as his sixteen-year-old, which makes sense. It was very interesting to see the dilemma Xie Lian had to deal with; he saw the kingdom he loved and grew up with slowly fall apart, and there was nothing he really could do. He tried everything, but in the end, it was for nothing. Qi Rong was fortunately deligated to the back (thank fuck) and even his lackeys weren't as prominent. I also like how we met Hua Cheng again, and that we see why he is so obsessed with Lie Xian. I really wonder when Lie Xian will find out that they are one and the same; it likely will take a little while. The second half of the volume felt a big build-up to something bigger. Some more characters are introduced, likely planting seed for the future, and we are starting several plot points. The murderous ghost baby and their unidentified father, Hua Chang and Xie Lian's growing relationship (they kissed!) and now we are dealing with the Jinx creature. We also still have to deal with Qi Rong possessing a human body. I do like that they all torture him. Also, what a cliff-hanger! I am wondering if dealing with the Jinx creature will be a short-lived affair, or will be something big (will check, since I already have volume 4). But overall, this once again was a lot of fun. I love to see Xie Lian's downfall and see how Hua Chang became devoted to him. Also, I expected the Tumor Trio will play a much more important role. It feels like the Wind Master is kinda played for a fool by his brother, and I know we are also going to meet Black Water at some point (looking at the Wind Master's ship with him). I am also curious about White No-Face, as I immediately pegged him as being a very powerful, dangerous being the moment they were introduced during the Xianle arc. I hope that we get more information about them in upcoming novels, as there are clearly things unresolved between them and Xie Lian. Overall, though it wasn't necessarily an exciting book regarding plot progression (half of it being flashbacks), but I immensely enjoyed myself. This all really helped fleshing out the characters further and set up (hopefully) very important plot threads.

took INSANE emotional damage from arc 2. hua cheng also actually made me cry like it’s about love and devotion etc and i’m so crazy about it. overall liked some of the more serious and contemplative vibes in this volume but what a ride

E é fascinante ver a forma como Xie Lian agia naquele momento e no tempo atual da história. A segunda parte é voltada para o presente e temos o reencontro dele com Hua Cheng e a resolução de mais problemas. Adoro essa "coisa" de investigação que tem na história também.
