I read the first book of this series, East, when I was in middle school. I absolutely loved it then and was super excited to see that a sequel had been made!
I have to say I definitely enjoyed getting back into this world. I also never realized that it was set in our world as a kid. It made it even more magical for me.
My one complaint is I wish that time would have passed as it did between books. Just 3 years in between seemed too short a time. However, it was really cool reading it as a wife and mom with a young son considering that's exactly where Rose is in the book. I definitely connected so much to her strive and grief throughout each part of the book!
I don't want to say exactly what happens because if you've never read East, it will definitely spoil it for you. However, this duology is great for young readers and I definitely recommend it to adults as well!
Genre would definitely be fantasty.

This is the duology sequel to East (also titled ‘North Child’), a young-adult fantasy retelling of the poem ‘East of the Sun, West of the Moon’.
The first book, East, gave me all the Beauty & the Beast meets The Snow Queen vibes, but with trolls as the antagonists.
In this sequel, Rose has discovered her White Bear has gone missing while traveling and must set off to find and save him once again, but the stakes are higher this time around!

At times, i caught myself skimming, often, but I love them all and had fun by the end.

I liked the last half of the book much better than the first. At first I felt like it was the same story again and that it wasn’t necessary to tell this story again. But it picked up.

Much better than the first book, loved all the new characters and perspectives. The story was really well put together and entertaining.

Rarely do you fine a sequel that lives up to the expectations of the first book. I was very worried that by not reading the sequel while I was younger, like I had with the first, that I would miss out on the magic of the first. Instead, I'm happy to have saved a little of my childhood magic to return to as an adult.
