I thought this was a beautifully written story and all tied together so well at the end. I really loved the myriad perspectives from every corner of the story.

Even if it was written in a detached enough way that that it didn’t feel overly upsetting, and even if it was in line with all the stories of Zeus, there was too much sexual assault in this book for me to give it five stars. Goddess or mortal, pretty much every woman in this story was assaulted at some point, which felt excessive to me.

A dark but funny retelling of the intertwined stories of Medusa, Perseus and Andromeda.

It was an interesting narrative style with some of the narration addressing the reader directly, and taking a pop at Perseus for his stupidity.

There weren’t many likeable characters in the books. It was hard to like Athene or Hera because of their victim blaming of women raped by the Gods.  The Gods and demigods were petty, vengeful and full of their own self-importance. However the three Gorgon sisters were eminently likeable, fiercely loyal to one another and transform this story into a feminist retelling.

There are three strands to the story: Perseus’ quest to save his mother from unwanted marriage; Medusa’s rape then Athene’s curse; Andromeda the child of a vain fading beauty. These strands come together beautifully. A cracking good read.

I know I know - this one falls into one of my niche interests. And I’ve read almost all of Haynes novels -and they never disappoint. Again we have a retelling that takes the traditional myth we though we knew and sets it in the points of view of the women involved. Personally, this version of Athena and forms of Medusa resonated with my understanding of the characters and felt almost more accurate than other depictions I have seen. The righteous rage is also a fantastic element, that I almost wish we saw more of in this other narratives. 4.5/5
Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins for sending the book for review consideration. All opinions are my own!

A gorgeous mythological retelling filled with full voices and interesting takes on a classic tale. Al the characters were presented in such a new way that I’ve never experienced before, and the prose is so lyrical and flows easily. I would highly recommend!!!
