A great retelling of Superman's early years, but wasn't able to get into mostly because of the artwork. A Christopher Reeve face on young Clark was so uncanny.

Powerful story. An excellent read. I am convinced that some of the best writing, right now, is in comics. And if you disagree...you've probably never read a comic book.

Definitely enjoyed this! I have a huge gap in my superman knowledge when it comes to a lot of his early life so this was really fun to see! I loved seeing Clark as a kid and high school student discovering his powers and how to deal with them, and learning more about the daily planet later on! I love Geoff johns writing in this, it’s fantastic, but I will say I’m not a massive fan of the art style, and some of the panels really didn’t work in my opinion. Overall very good though! I’m glad I was finally able to read it!

The return of Braniac. The real one. Clark finally confronts the stealer of worlds in an epic battle to free Metropolis and restore the Bottled City of Kandor. Pretty straight forward story, this story really shines in its characterization of the relationship between Clark and his father. The tragedy that befalls Jonathan Kent in a variety of Superman incarnation stories finally catches up with him in continuity, with devastating consequences for Clark. Anyway, the best part of this is that in its epic scope, it finds time to deal with the fundamental relationship that created Superman.

This is definitely one of my favorite Superman stories. It's full of emotion, most notably fear and heartbreak. Gary Frank is one of my favorite artists, especially on Superman because he captures the vibe of Christopher Reeve and slaps it down on the page.

While you're reading this, you get the feeling that Brainiac is one of the most menacing beings in the universe and you get a shiver down your spine because of some of the things he says and does and because of Kara's reaction to him.

The ending is a sad one. A very sad one. It hits you hard, especially when you see the very last page of the epilogue. But it's a defining moment in Superman's life and it shouldn't be undervalued.

Basically, this book is brilliance. Geoff Johns hits another home-run with this one. The only thing I can complain about it that it's very short. You could probably read this whole thing in forty-five minutes. But it's not too big of a problem.

This is a really good Superman story. Even it is really only a stepping stone to a larger story, I highly enjoyed it and wished it was a bit longer and more fleshed out. But in the end, who doesn't love a good Superman/Brainiac brawl?
