Sarah's Key

The writing is uneven in the beginning and the books ties up a little too neatly at the end, but Sarah's story is heartbreaking and what happened at the Velodrome d'Hiver should not be forgotten.

One of the most beautiful books of the year!

Beautiful and sad but very disturbing. I had to put it down for a while. If you know and love a child yu will find this one disturbing.

I couldn't put it down. I most enjoyed the historical aspect of the book and the chapters that told Sarah's story. However, the main character Julia was incredibly annoying. Her thoughts and actions were like those of a sixteen year old girl even though she was supposed to be a middle aged woman! It would have been a better read if the modern day perspective was told from Julia's daughter Zoe.

De vier sterren door de laatste 50 blz. Daarvoor werd ik een beetje moeilijk door het verhaal van de ik- persoon. Uiteindelijk mooi over de streep getrokken door plot twists.

I liked this book, but the jumping from present to past really irritated me. At certain parts I felt more "I don't care about Julia, I want to read the next part of the Jewish girl's story!" But I still didn't mind it too much.

Loved this book! A work of fiction, based on a real-life event (but the author stated that this was NOT a work of historical fiction!). Very moving story that I couldn't put down. I felt compelled to learn about the Vel' d'Hiv' after I finished the book.

eeeh

Quickly engaging book. The current-flashback style is not my favorite but I was surprised that it didn't bother me at all. It's the type of historical fiction that compels you to find out more about the facts.

sad but really a great story!
