So slow.....i fell asleep listening to this 3 times. I don't know if it was the reader or the story. But as an audio book this was IMPOSSIBLE to follow. And the magazine articles made it confusing. I wanted to like this so much.
The Club by Ellery Lloyd was such a wonderful mystery that doesn't get lost in the plot of a murder. I really enjoyed how there was a story that circled around one main character and her interactions, memories, choices, and the like. Then, the rest of the plot takes shape as she makes decisions and builds relationships.
The main character runs "Home" which is an elite club located on a remote island. The most VIP people are in attendance and she is expected to cater to their needs. Lloyd successfully writes a plot that weaves the inner workings of the main character with what is happening on the island. Throughout the book, you will read about drama, personal development, humorous interactions, family dysfunction, and a wealthy group of people.
I enjoyed how smoothly this book flowed and took shape. I suggest it to people who like realistic fiction, mysteries or murders, and slow-burn novels. Definitely worth the read!

3.5 if I’m feeling generous. Interesting concept but it was really slow and did not feel like a mystery/thriller bc the suspense was so whatever

Slowwwww start & there were many times I wasn't sure I wanted to continue. Hang on , it does pick up midway through the book.
I wanted to love this book but I just didn't.
What didn't work for me-
1. Unremarkable cast of characters.
2. The fact that I had to keep a note in the book of the characters and what they did should of been a huge red flag. I have never done that in any previous book I've read and in the end I just didn't care about any of them.
3. Too descriptive.
This book did not keep me engaged & I felt like it would never end. Once again a huge disappointment as a pick for Reese Witherspoon's book club.

DNF. This did not grab me at all, even after 100 pages.
slow-paced
This was a very dull book that spent so much time on the backstory that it didn't get to the action until about 75% through. The story was told from so many points of view, but each voice sounded the same and didnt bring anything new or exciting to the table. Everything was laid out in such a straightforward telly manner that not a whole lot was left up to the reader to figure out. I didn't care about any of the characters.
