My review of the sequel is basically the same as my review of the first.

I had heard everyone saying, since you loved Foundryside, you're going to love Shorefall even more. Well, it didn't work out that way. I know that people say things like this, and I'm guilty of it, too...but we set people for failure/disconnect...when we do this.

My expectation for the first book...was that it was good, and it met and even exceeded my expectation.

This book fell short of the hyped expectation of this book, when...it really shouldn't have been hyped in that manner (IMO).

The story was great, and complicated and intricate, which was great...but it also (at times) was so overly complicated...that I checked out/zoned out for a bit...when it go so far in the weeds on HOW the lexicons did what they did. Also, I was reading ANOTHER book (that I felt was different enough, that I could keep them separate, but I was wrong). There were times in reading this book, that I thought of the characters of the other book, and vice versa. I had to put this book down...finish the other one, then pick this one back up...and finish it. Not the best scenario.

When I reread this series, and I will, I will make sure to dedicate the time with it, without distractions. So, that's on me.

SO, between the hype and my own distractions, the story at times didn't hit the way the first one did, and I wish those two circumstances did NOT happen. As you can see that I didn't ding it TOO much, but it was probably the same as the previous book in the series..and the .25 Star ding...was me not connecting as well as the first book. Sorry.

Love the characters. Sancia and Gregor are still my favourites, but Orso, Berenice, and Polina grew in my eyes.

I really did NOT like Crasedes and Gregor's mother, Ofelia Dandido were not. They did/do reprehensible things in this story. Ugh.

It is now a time of war, so I'm wondering how/what our heroes are going to do...to save their world. It really is an interesting predicament that they are in. I will get to the third book in the trilogy, soon (hopefully).
