After reading Jen Frederick's "Losing Control" I was eager to try another of her books. And then I found the Hitman series with Jen Frederick and Jessica Clare. OMG! Yep. Loved "Last Hit"!

Nick and Daisy are the two most unlikely people to put together but these ladies made them perfect for each other.

Nick is a Ukrainian Hitman for the Bratva and Daisy is a sweet, über sheltered farm girl who had to run away from home to try to live a normal life.

From their first meeting I adored them as a couple. I wanted to see their happily ever after.

The story was great. The characters drew you in and made you feel for them. Even the secondary characters are intriguing enough that you want more of them.

I really enjoyed "Last Hit" and am now eager to read "Last Breath" to see how this is all resolved.

"I want to clutch at my new life with tight hands, but I don't even know where to begin."

Nikolai Andrushko is a killer for hire - a hitman. Born in the Ukraine and raised in Russia, most of his youth was spent under the watchful eye of Alexsandr, the king of the Petrovich Bratva, one of Russia's most powerful organized crime operations. Killing his mark has been ingrained in him since he was a teen. After being kicked out of the Bratva, he now works for no one but himself. He has this sexy lethal air about him that was incredibly alluring to me. Combined with his hot accent, his sex appeal was off the charts. But so was his creep factor. It didn't take long for Nikolai to latch onto the innocent and seemingly helpless girl next door, Daisy. After several nights of surveillance and peeping tom antics, Nikolai finally meets the girl he's been watching from afar. After that moment, he refuses to let her go.

Nikolai is fiercely protective of Daisy from the very beginning of their relationship. Nick, the boyfriend, is a stark contrast to Nikolai the cold, deadly contract killer. Upon meeting Daisy, he begins to live a double life.

"I have so little of worth to offer Daisy. That I could buy her a phone or a few pieces of clothing or even pay her rent is the only thing I can provide, and she rejects that. I want something more with Daisy. I want, perhaps, to not kill anymore. To live with her in a tiny apartment and eat food made by her hands and make love to her every evening. And maybe some mornings. Also afternoons."

What I found really interesting about these two characters is the fact that they have both led very different lives and grew up around very different cultures and under different circumstances. Despite their differing backgrounds, they are both similarly situated - they both are lost in the world. Neither of them know what it is like to live a normal, mundane life. Daisy was basically imprisoned in her father's house with little exposure to the outside world. And Nikolai was raised to kill, which is clearly not a normal upbringing. As they get to know each other, they find common grounds.

"There is a darkness in her, and it makes her all the more appealing. If there is darkness inside her, perhaps she will understand the darkness inside me."

I found myself giggling at Nick many times. His Ukrainian accent and lack of contraction usage was sort of adorable.

"This is why I do not socialize with others. Accents are fairly easy for me to adopt, but my language is too stilted to pass as native."

The beginning of the book felt a little rushed to me, specifically Nikolai and Daisy's relationship and attraction to each other. The reader was thrown into Nikolai's obsession with Daisy almost immediately. In addition to the relationship plotline, there is, of course, a storyline surrounding Nikolai's ties with the Bratva and the death of Alexandr.

The latter part of the book fell apart and I found many of the sex scenes to be rather ridiculous. If you like over-the-top sex scenes with a lot of raunchiness, you will enjoy this book more than I did.

3 hitman-turns-boyfriend stars!

While I'm trying to put my thoughts into order and FINALLY review The King, I went into my reading cave and read a couple of series. It helps me think.

As much as I liked the first few chapter of this book - almost half way in actually - that much I was torn with the ending.

Daisy is innocent beyond words. Having to take care of her father due to his agoraphobia; she was sheltered and home-schooled. Until one day she leaves it all behind and goes to live on her own. I don't really know how I feel about this. She left her father behind, sure she's had enough but leaving him in the care of a stranger maybe didn't sit well with me. Anyway.

She finds an apartment from an ad and everything is going well for her.

Nikolai on the other hand is the opposite of Daisy. Raised to become a hitman, he is ruthless and cold and doesn't really know anything else than killing for a living.

I have to say that as a hitman series it is not very successful. Only a few mentions now and then and barely sufficient. But I'll get back to that.

The fact that Daisy is naive and innocent I could understand. Living with a controlling father was bound to shape her like that but the fact that she slowly became a whole other person around Nik - sex crazed and an pro! - was a little out of place.

Nik is hell bend over ruining her things only to use that as an excuse to by her new ones. At first I though, well played author, well played. But that went on for a while and it soon became a little old.

The story progresses with Daisy being oblivious to the fact that he is a hitman - even when he starts stalking her for her own good since she is too innocent to be working at a gas station but anyway.

With a lot of issues - but thankfully a lot of Russian accent, da! - the story was so-so.

And then shit hit the fan.

Nik's enemies want to use Daisy to get him back into their organization and suddenly the plot twists and I'm left wondering...

Nik - the experienced one - acts like this is his first challenge ever and Daise - the innocent one - acts like she is the experienced hitman.

Overall there were parts that I really enjoyed - I repeat, that hot accent - and the well played innocence from Daisy's part. Yes, I had a few issues but I did overlook them most of the time.

If you're looking for a hitman series this is NOT it but if you're looking for a hitman-turns-boyfriend then this is it!

I would rate this a three, because the last 10% lost my interest! but the average rating of this book is too low, after reading books that are just awful but are rated4+ I felt I couldn't let this books rating sink any lower.

4 hitman stars!

I love me a good hitman/mafia/assassin book! Only downfall was the heroine...I get that she was sheltered which was a big aspect of the book and her character, but I guess I just prefer a stronger, sassy heroine. Overall I did enjoy this book and would recommend. Can't wait for Daniels book!
