Can I just say I have been in constant state of tears because of this book from page 91 until the end. My husband thought I was going crazy but man when I didn't think the relationships could be as devastating as Gordo and Mark, TJ Klune was like let me take it up a notch.

Robbie and Kelly, I want to hug them both and let them know that everything is alright. I cannot believe what happened in this book. I don't know how they held on but I am so glad they did.

I hope that Carters book isn't as heartbreaking, but seeing how each book seems to out do the previous book with the amount of heartbreak I can see I will need a new box of tissues next to me for the last Green Creek book.

I've pushed off writing this review for Ages. I think I read this book at least one month ago and i only remember pieces of it, but luckily I took notes! Before starting, I want to say that I plan on reading it again soon. I don't know why, probably because I tend to binge read Klune's book, but I can't fully enjoy his books on the first read. I usually have to read them a second time to fully appreciate his works and, unfortunately, I haven't had time to do just that yet. So this is my first opinion on 'Heartsong' but it may vary when I'll read it again!

Before even it being published, I was planning on giving this book all the stars in the world because it's one of my favorite fantasy series, and then this book was going to be about Robbie and Kelly and they're my favorites (along with Carter obviously) but... It let me down a little bit. I think this was also a consequence of reading the whole thing in one day (I had the same experience with Wolfsong, where I rushed the reading and didn't manage to fully enjoy it until I read it for the second time so, I'm not losing hope!).
I was excited because this book was about them and we'd finally see them getting together, but in the end we got a wiped-out Robbie for 90% of the book. I thought we would have known more about his life before the pack, how he came to travel around so much without ever sticking to one pack, but we barely touched the subject.

The second thing that really let me down was the character's reaction to Robbie's betrayal. After 6 years with the pack, after having mated with Kelly, after giving up Michelle Hughes as his alpha to stay with Ox and Joe, he suddenly went crazy and the first thing they thought, instead of maybe something being wrong with him, is that he betrayed them? Is that what they mean for trust? Because that sounds like bs to me.
We knew, even before this book, that Robbie always had trust issues, he never stayed with a pack too long and never formed a bond with them. He gave his trust to Ox, to Joe, to Gordo and to Kelly, and the first thing they thought was that he had betrayed them? And they left him to rot in the compound for 13 months, without even looking for him? They don't deserve him. At that point I just wanted him to be happy and I didn't even care if he went back to pack or not.

One of the reasons I was so excited to read about Robbie and Kelly was because I knew that the author had mentioned on Twitter that Kelly was asexual and I'm always there to support my ace companions. I think TJ Klune is the only author who can say he has two books with asexual main characters and I'm so glad for all he does for the representation of the LGBTQIA community. I was excited to see how they would have interacted and how they would have explored that part of their relationship, because for all they say that just loving each other is enough, it's really not. Being asexual and in a relationship with someone who is not, is hard and finding a balance inside the couple is even harder. I was curious how this part would be treated, and seeing it completely wiped out and overlooked made me a little bit sad.

As I was saying, this was my first impression of the novel, my raw feelings about what I was reading at the moment and I realized while I was writing this review that I didn't even focus one bit on the plot lol. There isn't much progress plotwise but I think everything that was built in this book is in preparation for the final war next year.

This was definitely the best book of the series so far but as an asexual, I wish Travis John hadn’t written a sex scene for Kelly. Like even though Kelly isn’t a sex repulsed ace, I felt like they still constantly talked about sex anyways and I hate that having sex is what makes the mate bond “happen”. Ace card revoked, Travis. You should have even just done it as a closed door scene.
Also I felt like the same conversation happened SEVERAL times.
But I did cry at one point in the book bc it was bittersweet and romantic so points for that.
