I agree with other reviews that something about her story feels falsified in some sections. Regardless, it was an easy albeit long read. The book provides a first hand perspective of drug addiction and recovery, I recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about it.

You NEVER know what people have gone or are going through. This book is tough to read. If you can’t handle stories about drug use don’t read it. This is a brutal childhood. Sheer strength of character got this woman to be who she is. My goodness. Thank you for sharing Ms. Brown.

This was a great memoir. This opened my eyes to some of the harsh realities of the world. I loved that the book really put me in Cupcake Brown's shoes and made me feel like I was her through the reading. I was never into memoirs prior to reading this book, but it really made me want to read more. I felt her pain, and I felt her happiness. It was a phenomenal book! Loved it!
Um dos únicos livros que li esse ano que não foram indicação de ninguém. Apenas vi no libby um memoir com uma capa bonita e um título intrigante. Resolvi que ia pegar o audiobook pra ouvir e meu Deus, que bom que eu segui essa intuição. Provavelmente um dos meus favoritos de 2024 e top três memoirs da vida (só li três kkkkkkk). Mas sério, esse livro foi uma surpresa imensa. Nós acompanhamos uma garota chamada Cupcake Brown, que desde cedo é arrancada do lar onde "cresceu" (entre várias aspas pois nesse momento ela tem apenas 11 anos), e é lançada a uma vida onde precisa recorrer a prostituicao para sobreviver, uma vida cercada de drogas, álcool e envolvimento com gangues. Infelizmente, uma realidade comum para crianças dentro desse sistema. Apesar disso, Cup tem algo dentro de si mesma que a impede de cair completamente nesse mundo. Sua história, mesmo que muitas vezes difícil de ler e revoltante, também é emocionante e inspiradora. Uma obra que não vai deixar minha mente tão cedo.
