This reads a little like Catcher In The Rye, with angst suffered by a vampire.

I wanted an old fashioned vampire yarn, but those are harder to find now that they sparkle, swoon, and fart. I almost put this down after a few pages, but damn, the writing is good and the story compelling, and the characters rich.

So, okay, if you're gonna read a book about vampers and have them be anything other than evil and savage killers, then pick this up. It's better than it has a right to be.

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. This whole book is incredible, but that last chapter? Impeccable. I was kinda suspecting something was up when a certain character disappeared and then reappeared at such a perfect time, but it still was a total shock.

Most of the story is eh if I'm honest but the ending alone is worth it.

Never a great read, but it was at least mildly entertaining up until the terrible twist in the last chapter.

WOW! I loved this. Gritty, trashy vampires. And it's scary! More vampire stuff like this in the world, please.

The second half of this book was much better than the first. The story finally picks up and goes somewhere. The Coda was kinda a mind fuck and changed the story. I don't know how to feel about it other than you definitely didn't see it coming. He did warn you that you could've ended the book without reading the Coda. I kinda wished I did.

I can't say why this book just wasn't for me. It reminded me of Neil Gaiman and I have a love-hate relationship with Gaiman books. The writing in this one reminded me a lot of Neverworld by Neil Gaiman. Maybe that's why it didn't draw me in as much as I had hoped.

I...just...I can’t even describe...

I can’t say much about this book without giving the best parts away.

What I can say is...if you have a messed up since of humor. The kind that you hide from all but your best friends and even most of them. If you like true horror, not the jump scares that Hollywood has taught you horror is, but the true horror that sits with you, that eats your guts from the inside out. If you like to have your heart broken, ripped out of your chest by tiger-like fangs. Then this book is for you.

Read. It. Full stop.

4.5. Damn.

This is a very specific kind of story and I think I may have only liked it this much since I haven’t been reading a lot of horror lately. But a fun ride
