This is a cute rom-com with some deeper themes than just romance. Ana has immigrated with her family from Argentina and though she has studied English, she is not prepared for the idiosyncrasies of the English language. She is a poet and writes all the things she is learning, like "when pigs fly", or 2 words that sound the same but mean different things, like write and right. When she meets All-American boy Harrison in her math class and starts to tutor him, she has no trouble understanding what it means when her heart races and she blushes. But she also meets Neo, a fellow student in her ESL class. He is from Cyprus, but they find ways to communicate and they understand how each feels about missing home, not fitting in, not understanding things going on around them, etc. Of course, there is a love triangle, but there are also themes of friendship, family, immigration, bullying, and assimilation. A 2023 Oklahoma Sequoyah nominee.

Ana is new to the United States. She is struggling to learn the language, the culture, and how to talk to boys. I loved the way the author conveyed Ana's struggle to understand what was said to her and how she used poetry to process her thoughts. Highly recommended.

Oh. My. Gosh. This book was so sweet! I taught a section of ESOL Biology this year and it was one of the best classes I’ve ever taught

I wish she ended up with the guy instead of him moving away
