The whole skin trade aspect of half the book really threw me into an entire emotional rollercoaster I was not ready for. Definitely read with disrection.

Tough read. I thought the first book was dark but man getting through the first half of this one for me was hard. So much of it dragged for me which is probably great for someone who likes suspense. To me it began to feel like a survivor’s guide at some point. I loved that their relationship was more stable or consistent in this book though. I couldn’t leave off on a cliff hanger!

BOOK REVIEW : I am so heartbroken over how this book turned out. The first book of this series was a dark romance. This book, the second, was just dark. Listen, I understand that women being sexually assaulted in books can be necessary for story lines, but this book did none of that. There are VERY descriptive rape scenes from the main character, and they just seemed so unnecessary. The first book was all about this girl falling in love with her stalker who works to takedown sex trafficking, while trying to solve her great grandmother’s murder. Totally amazing story with great spice and an even better plot. The second book lacked a lot of this and if I were to ever reread, I would skip part 1 entirely and begin where Zade reunited with Addie.

“She holds on to me like she’s falling, but I have no interest in catching her. I will always fall with her, chasing after her even in death.”

Overall, I think the author is very talented; she's a great writer and I truly adored the first book, but this one just wasn’t it.

Beware the trigger warnings.
I kinda skimmed the warning page and I was surprised and a little knocked back when the warned things happened first. Incredibly dark, not shying away from the ruthless details to make a realistic story. Addie's struggles were easily felt when I read it, I found myself truly capturing her emotions the whole way through. When she felt weak, or hopeless, I did. When she was strong I felt strong too. It was an emotional, brutal book but I'm so glad I read it, it was something that made me look up at the world I am in.
