2022 Update: I’m getting too old for this much angst, but the rating holds!

While this is the fourth book in the series, it's my first review. I've rated the prior three four stars each, and this one deserves a higher rating. It's not perfect, but even knowing what formula to expect going in, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I picked up the series for the fish-out-of-water promise of More Than This, and while I struggled with the twist ending of that book and felt it went on for fifty pages too long, I am a sucker for ad hoc families and deceivingly strong characters. That scene in the limo in the first novel always stuck with me. When I come back to a series a year or so later I often have to reread the past installment or bring myself back up to speed. I didn't need to do so with these people.

The formula Jay McLean seems to lean on involves characters building themselves up from tragedy and then toppling apart for maximum angst before rebuilding. In the first novel I remember feeling like the story organically ended and another hill was padded on unnecessarily. In the next two I felt she sucked every ounce of angst out of the story with big, huge roadblocks. Here it is the most understated and it feels the most organic. There's tragedy and misunderstanding, but more of everyday variety. Heavy topics of murder, home invasion, sexual assault, and abandonment behind us. The characters had more room to breathe this time.

Lucy has been my favorite character all along, and along with Mark and surprisingly Minge, the characters popped off the page. There was the emotional repetitiveness common to this type of story, but the humor absolutely made up for it. I was never bored, and the continuity was very impressive as the prior novels happened in the background.

I shouldn't have liked this as much as I did. I really, really did.

I finished this book with a wow. The writing was just amazing, hot and steamy and really kept me intrigued throughout the whole of the book. The characters are so captivating and the conflict is so well written within the story. I love the whole book and the emotional journey that both characters go on. It was relatable and stunningly done.

*Note: This is the fourth book in a series. It can probably be read as a standalone, but will spoil the other books if you do read this first. I would suggest reading them in order.

Wow, I didn't think anything would top More Than Her, but somehow More Than Forever did. I freakin loved this book. I loved Logan in the last book, but oh my goodness Cameron. He kind of swooped in out of nowhere and stole my heart. He was amazing.

Cameron and Lucy have been together forever. Since her mom died. Since he started showing up at her house to help out after that. He noticed her before that, but never got a chance to talk to her. In the first book in the series we see they are already together, and the epilogue of the last book had a bit of a sneak peek as to where they were going, but this story goes back to the beginning. Goes back to when Lucy's mom dies and what happens between then and now. How do these two get together and become the amazing couple that they are.

When the story starts out Lucy is having a hard time. She has so many siblings to take care of and now that her mom has died and her dad is not around. He drinks himself into a stupor and when he is there he is not a good person. So Lucy is trying to do everything herself. Trying to make sure her brothers eat and go to school and do everything they are supposed to. It is a lot to put on such a young person, though when Cameron starts showing up to help she isn't sure what to think. I mean she doesn't even know him. Why is he coming by? She is very proud and doesn't want to need anyone else's help. She also has some other issues, ways she tries to deal with the pain and chaos around her, and Cameron helps with that as well. And slowly Lucy starts to let him in. Slowly she starts to trust him and like him and love him.

Cameron is simply amazing. He is all in so quickly and so young. He only sees Lucy. There are no other women. This book has a lot of ups and downs, mainly because Lucy is pretty insecure at times. I don't really know why as Cameron is as close to a perfect boyfriend as you can get. Sure other girls might try and move in on him, but honestly he doesn't notice or see them. This can cause issues because Lucy is worried he will leave her eventually, and since he doesn't see anyone else he isn't aware of how hurtful some of the things he does are because of her insecurities. I really did love everything that happened with Roxy. Well not loved what happened, but loved how Cam saw everything at that time. Loved that he only sees Lucy, only ever her. Oh I don't know how you can not fall in love with this guy!

This story has some really rough parts. Some times where I just hurt so much for Cam and want to hate Lucy for hurting him. Some times where I wasn't sure if they would actually make it, but then I kept holding on to the sneak peek we got at the end of the last book, hoping beyond hope that everything will turn out okay. I mean Cam will do anything to be with Luce. He loves her beyond anything that could happen, she just needs to figure that out. She needs to learn to be more secure with them. I guess that would be one small, teeny tiny little thing I didn't get in this story - why Lucy was so insecure with them. It seems like with a boyfriend like him you should just know he loves you and would never do anything to intentionally hurt you or jeopardize your love. It was rough at times, but I also couldn't put it down. Cam just stole my heart and I couldn't wait to see him and his happily ever after. Oh I can't tell you how much I loved this story. I thought the last book was amazing, but somehow this one was even better. I know I have one more and I don't know how it could be better than Cam and Lucy's story. We shall see. Really this series is amazing. Simply amazing reads. Love them so much.

Thank you for this Jay! This book had everything love, laughter, lots of crying and the perfect ending. To be honest I lost hope with this series after reading the 2nd and 3rd books (Amanda just did not do it for me--lets call it an intense disliking) Also Cam & Lucy were my least fav couple at first, I had no idea how or what their story would be like, curiosity got the better of me and thankfully I read this bloody amazing book! Cam is my new fav character, everything was perfect~ I actually felt like crying at all the heart wrenching moments, simply beautiful. One request tho, hurry up with the next book and please make it equally awesome ! :)

"Was there a moment?" Logan asks. "Like a distinct moment when you knew she was it for you."

A smile pulls on my lips. "Not really. I mean I could lie, I could tell you it was the first time we had sex, or the first time she laughed. But I don't know... maybe there wasn't a moment, or maybe it was all of them."

3.5 stars. So much crying in this book, too much crying in this book. It was not what I expected. Lucy was such a fierce funny badass in all the other books and in the book about her all she does is cry. I was excited to finally get to her and Cameron's story but the non stop crying was just too much for me.
It’s a lovely story and again so much going on but not what I expected.

MORE STARS....I NEED MORE STARS!!!

Cam,
When I read the first three MORE books I kept thinking how excited I was to hear Lucy's story and how I just knew that she would be my most favorite character EVER. I was wrong, because all of this time I was really waiting to meet you. I thought that Lucy would make this story, but it was you, it's always been you. *cue cheesy background music* My MOREheart has always belonged to Jake, my MOREgina to Logan, until I met you. I think that I might easily hand them both over to you.
Your and Lucy's story surprised me in ways that I never imagined. I felt all of the feels while reading, all eleventy-three of them. If anyone would have watched me while reading this, they would have easily diagnosed me as bi-polar. I was outright laughing out loud one minute and then quietly sobbing into a pillow the next. I hit the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The only steady throughout was my love for you. Did you make mistakes, yes albeit very small and very unintentional ones but your love for Lucy never did. Not once.
It's easy to see how you fell in love with her, I could easily switch teams for her. She's beautiful, she's smart, she freakin hilarious (PENIS! WHORE!) and she loves her brothers with everything she has. She can be a bit crazy (PENIS! WHORE!) and insecure but it only makes her that much more endearing. It really was fate from the very beginning with you two. I could read about 1,000 more chapters about you guys.
I'll quite possibly never get over this story. I can see it weighing on my heart for a long time to come, in a good way, but also in all of the sad ways. I'll never believe another couple deserves their complete and total happy ever after the way that you two do. You're everything to me, the two of you. Also, would it be wrong of me to model my parenting style after Mark and Heather, because that's my plan. Oh and can I please hear Dylan and Heidi's story now? Seriously, what's that all about?!?
Always Waiting for MORE,
Jaime

PS. That time when you guys became "official", yeah, best making it official story EVER!!

Hilarious! I don't think I've ever laughed so hard before. It amazed me how hard I could laugh at points and then be crying the next chapter. This is the first Jay McLean book I've read and if they are all this good, I will definitely be picking up the others.
It was a little long for me, but since it followed Lucy and Cam from sophomore of high school, well into sophomore or junior year of college it was pretty worth it.
