Reviews with content warning for Death - What Feasts at Night

I absolutely loved What Moves the Dead and went into this with real high expectations. This book continues to follow Alex Easton as ka* heads back to kans homeland, Gallacia. There are still very much gothic themes and imagery, but it takes much longer to get an unsettling feeling we got in What Moves the Dead. I do love we got to understand more of the culture of Gallacia and I think the novella did an excellent job at explaining necessary world-building lore. The story itself is fairly slow in the beginning due to the world-building. However, the last 1/3 of the book is amazing and gives you those same creepy feelings you got from the first book. I would recommend reading this if you enjoyed the first one, just know there’s less horror and more mystery

This book was a fun, quick read. It was nice to return to Alex and Angus, but the plot of this book was predictable and it didn’t feel like it added a new twist in the way that the first one did. It goes exactly where you think it is going.

I still recommend reading it, just don’t expect a twist like the first one.

I am so fond of T Kingfisher's writing that you should probably take my bias into consideration. Kingfisher could present me with a word salad and I'm sure I'd eat it up. I loved this, of course. I found the climax to be quite spooky in its imagery. I loved the characters. I loved the old quiet lodge near a tiny rural town setting. For such a short book, the start does feel a little slow before the supporting cast shows up.
