This is a beautiful and thought provoking book.

This book made my libral heart brake.

This story gave me all the feels as it walks you through what it is like to be an undocumented migrant in the USA 25 years ago through the prysam of one Colombian family who became separated between borders.  It really brings into stark relief all the issues at play and you really do think at the end, there but for the grace of God I. This could happen to anyone.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Wandering Souls by Cecile Pin. It deals with similar but from a North American perspective. Also this novel has the best last line I can remember in a while.

A really good book.
The writing was so poetic and absolutely enthralling.
A very short read but does it pack a punch.
Filled with so much pain and anguish.
The separation and devastation of this family trying to find a place to exist in peace together.
Very interesting how Andean tales were also weaved in.

We all know the enemy 👀👀

Check trigger warnings!! There are a lot!!

A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.

This is another of those stories that is short but packs a powerfully crafted punch. The generational story struggle is poignant, and so is the delicate parallel drawn between Colombia and the United States in terms of how each is viewed as a society through the eyes of the other. I loved how the story was so focused on borders, how they divide us, and how we transcend them.

I will say that towards the end, the shift into first person and the yank back to third person could be jarring and a bit annoying; I wish it had stuck with one or the other, but at the same time I really enjoyed the first person voices and their 'perspectives' so all in all this was a 5 star read for me.

Unexpectedly uplifting ending.
