As long as you picture Nick there talking to you, it's a good read.
Absolutely hilarious! I found his adventures through theater, moving to Chicago and then L.A. absolutely fascinating. I learned so much about him and how he came to finally achieve success in Parks and Recreation. His point of view on happiness, advice, and success for life and living is simply delicious.
Delightful. Both Nick Offerman and this book. I listened to it, which is always a good way to go with a comedian's book. There's not much story, just a general memoir and telling of opinions, but given the author that's just fine.
I am not kidding when I say that this: Ron Swanson is super boring in real life. This book seemed interesting to me when I first picked it up - I really enjoy Nick Offerman on Parks and Rec and am totally in love with his wife Megan - and reading the first few chapters about his life on a farm in Minooka, IL (a town of which I am familiar to some degree: I lived in a neighboring town for a year or two) was interesting and cute. However, once I got to his pontificating about religion, my opinion on this book took a nosedive. Listen, I understand you don't like organized religion. I don't either. Using precious, valuable book space to reiterate this over... I dunno, it looks like 6 chapters... is annoying and quite frankly makes you look like a "tryhard". Slogging through the rest of this book made me, in a word, grumpy.
If you're interested in reading this, it's pretty much what you'd think Ron Swanson's life story would be like. "Hello. I wrote a book. I used a manual typewriter to create the words on these pages, which I fashioned out of sawdust and my own saliva. It's the only copy available. It will not be on audiobook format as I believe this is how the government indoctrinates our citizens. Read it if you have the time. Please and thank you."

I now feel confident in my knowledge of the LA audition process and Chicago theater scene! I hate rating people’s memoirs. I love nick and the way he uses language. He is such an interesting guy who I would love to be friends with! I think that if you like Parks and Rec you will love this.
The reason I am taking off a star is he talked a LOT about the theater scene and like how to be an actor which like yeah I should have expected but I don’t care because I am not interested in becoming and actress. Even though I did not care, the way he describes things is just fantastic.
Listening to this book makes me want to go eat a steak. Also I think he sunk into my subconscious because I went on two hikes during the course of listening to this book. I would deff recommend listening to this one.

It started out very entertaining and funny… but then it became repetitive and the jokes became less funny the more you heard them. I did find some interesting thought provoking words of wisdom throughout and found the stories about his early life entertaining. However, overall found it a slow read.
Too cute and too macho. Can it be both? Some bright spots, but mostly I'm not the demographic. I can't imagine what post-NC17, pre-grownup, pre-functional-adult-male would BE the demographic. Still, I do love this guy on general principles.
Offerman's stories are entertaining. Warning - many could be described as lewd, crude, and very sacrilegious. However, I really liked his take on the value of making things by hand, instead of staring at screens. Also, his descriptions of his training as an actor and the brutal grind of auditions would be useful reading for anyone who thinks it's easy to star in a hit show.
This is a highly enjoyable book. It is absolutely hilarious, and also made me think. I really enjoyed reading about his life, and he made a lot of good points about a ton of topics. I really like that he unapologetically presents his opinions on any topic that he addresses in the book. Definitely read this!!
Upon finishing this book, I immediately went out, bought some wood, and used my power tools (jigsaw and Dremel tool), so I guess that's as about a good recommendation as any.
